Bio

Siamak Hashemi, born 1992, Iran, self taught artist.

A creature from another universe comes to ours, gets lost, and finds Earth. It gets stuck—can’t escape, can’t go back home. It doesn’t belong here. Everything is different. The creature is confused; everything is unintelligible, and the creature is unintelligible to all the earthlings. It tries to understand this new universe and make sense of its new self—its new identity in a new world:
What is all this? Who am I? Where am I? What is it made of? How did it start? Am I alone? Am I in control? How does it work? What is good? What is bad? Who is right? When does it end? What is reality? What is consciousness? What is time? What does it mean to change? Can I be free again? Was I ever? What is my way out?
What you’ve read is the overall feeling and meaning behind my work. Every piece I create is a package of moments, thoughts, and emotions extracted from my life—past, present, and what might come.
I’ve explored various mediums, materials, and styles in my work. In fact, each of my projects is completely different from the others, and that’s the main path I’m taking in my artistic journey: exploring and discovering many directions. Each one helps me, in its unique way, to understand myself, the world around me, and the connections I make.
